Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing and Health Sciences

Compassionate. Cutting-Edge. Collaborative.

Cardinal Stritch University nursing graduates are different, there is ‘a special something’ that health care employers recognize.

Why are Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CONHS) grads different?

We could say it is our unique infusion of mental health into the curriculum, giving grads an understanding of the mind-body connection in caring for the whole person. We could say it is because of the cutting-edge curriculum, which is constantly evolving thanks to Stritch’s collaboration with leading health care organizations. We could also say that it is because of our faculty who are exceptional at teaching practical nursing skills, but then take it to a higher level by teaching and modelling care and compassion for the people they serve.

But really, Stritch nurses are in demand by employers because, they truly are special.  Cardinal Stritch University Nursing grads are committed, compassionate nurses who want to share their gifts and knowledge.

Recent national media coverage illustrates just one of the ways Cardinal Stritch University’s Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing and Health Sciences is taking nursing education to a different level:

I wish that every school involved with training our country’s future medical professionals would follow what Julie Lepianka is promoting at Cardinal Stritch University. I wish compassion and communication were the natural models because every one of us will face our own time in a hospital, whether as patients ourselves or watching over people we love dearly."

"An Honor to Join, a Benefit to Belong"

Sigma Theta Tau (STT) is the only International honor society in nursing for undergraduate and graduate students as well as professional nurses. It is a global community of nurse scholars and leaders from 90 countries recognized for their superior achievement, leadership qualities, high professional standards, and commitment to the profession of nursing. Students are invited to join Tau Sigma Chapter based on courses completed, class rank, and GPA.

Tau Sigma "Chapter - at - Large"

In 2013, the faculty from the Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing and Health Sciences working with the faculty from the Columbia College of Nursing from Tau Sigma, presented an application for a chapter charter amendment to Sigma Theta Tau International. The chapter charter was amended to "Chapter - at - Large." This amendment is significant in the life of the chapter as it affords more students, faculty, and leaders in the nursing profession an opportunity to participate in chapter activities and make contributions to their organization by representing nursing in a more definitive manner.
